The History of the USA II
The USA as a Global Power in the 20th century
The United States of America has been a world power since the early 20th century. Intervening in countless wars, it has had a decisive effect on the course of history. While at home, African Americans were – and still are - fighting for their civil and human rights.
The main film illustrates the USA in the "American century": As the world’s major industrial nation, military force and - besides the Soviet Union - leading power in the East-West conflict. The modules explain certain aspects of US American history: The world economic Crisis, New Deal, Cold War, Cuban Crisis, Vietnam War, Racial Segregation and the Civil Rights Movement. In a penetrating interview, civil rights activist Reverend Samuel Billy Kyle, a companion of Martin Luther King, talks of the African American struggle for equality. The footage for our educational films was shot at the historic locations of Boston, Memphis/Tennessee and New York.
